UK creative industries continue to resist government’s AI policy

25 February 2025

The UK’s creative industries remain committed to highlighting to the British public the “existential threat” posed by generative AI models.

In December, the government released a consultation proposing to exemplify AI training models from copyright law to maximise the development of the AI sector. Following the consultation’s closure yesterday, the creative industries are rallying together in support of the ‘Make It Fair’ campaign. This campaign aims to raise awareness of AI training methods, many of which involve combing creative content from the internet without credit, permission or compensation.

The campaign cover wrap states: “MAKE IT FAIR: The government wants to change the UK’s laws to favour big tech platforms so they can use British creative content to power their AI models without our permission or payment. Let’s protect the creative industries – it’s only fair.”

To participate in the Make It Fair campaign and protect 216,000 jobs supported by the UK music industry, write to your MP. The Creative Rights in AI Coalition have created an easy template that you can access here.
