Generative AI Poses Threat to the Future of Music Creators, Economic Study Warns
A new global economic report from CISAC warns that generative AI could drastically impact the income of music creators within the next five years.
Commissioned by CISAC, the world’s largest network of collective management organisations representing over six million creators and conducted by PMP Strategy, the study was published this week.
Key findings reveal that the market for AI-generated music and audiovisual content is projected to surge from approximately €3 billion (£2.49 billion) today to €64 billion (£53 billion) by 2028.
This rapid growth, however, is expected to come at a significant cost to music and audiovisual creators, whose revenues are predicted to decline sharply by 2028.
This underscores the urgent need for regulatory frameworks, fair compensation models and industry collaboration. For instance, introducing clearer copyright protections and revenue-sharing systems could help balance the benefits of AI advancements with the rights and earnings of creators.
